A Newberry Honor winning kid's book, loosely based on a true story. This book, unlike most of my other is not in top form. It's been read multiple times because I loved it so much as a kid. The paperback spine has a few small cracks, and a corner is ragged, but otherwise it is good.
Palmer is about to turn 10 years old. It is a day he has been dreading because in his community, when a boy turns 10, it is tradition for them to strangle a pigeon on Family Fest Pigeon Shooting Day. Palmer is under extreme pressure from his father and peers, so he tries his best to convince everyone that he is in fact excited to wring pigeon necks. When Palmer discovers a pigeon Nipper, and keeps him as a secret pet, Palmer finally has to decide whether he wants to fit in, or to stand up for his own beliefs.
Asking Price: $5.00
